What is Seamoss?
Sea moss is a type of red seaweed, most commonly Chondrus crispus, also known as Irish moss. It grows along the rocky Atlantic coasts of places like Ireland, the Caribbean, and North America.
What Is It Used For?
Sea moss has been used for centuries in traditional Irish and Caribbean cultures for:
• Thickening foods (like soups, stews, and desserts)
• Making sea moss gel (added to smoothies, teas, and recipes)
• Herbal remedies for coughs and colds
• Skin care products
It naturally contains carrageenan, a compound often used as a food thickener.
Why Do People Take It?
Sea moss is popular as a wellness supplement because it contains:
• Iodine (supports thyroid function)
• Iron
• Calcium
• Magnesium
• Potassium
• Some antioxidants
How Do You Use It?
1. Raw/dried – Soaked and blended into gel
2. Gel form – Added to smoothies or drinks
3. Capsules/powder – Taken as supplements
Is It Safe?
Generally safe in small amounts, but:
• It’s high in iodine, so too much may affect your thyroid.
• Quality varies depending on where it’s harvested.
If you have thyroid issues or are pregnant, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional first.
If you have a seafood or iodine allergy do NOT consume seamoss.
How do I consume Seamoss?
Sea moss gel has no taste and easy to mix into foods and drinks. Do NOT blend with dairy products.
Recommended Amount
• 1–2 tablespoons per day is the typical serving.
• Start with 1 tablespoon to see how your body responds.
Sea moss is naturally high in iodine, so more is not better.
5 Easy Ways to Take It
1. Blend Into Smoothies (Most Popular)
Add 1 tablespoon to:
• Fruit smoothies
• Protein shakes
• Green smoothies
It thickens the texture but doesn’t change the flavor much.
2. Stir Into Hot NON DAIRY Drinks
Mix into:
• Tea
• Coffee
• Hot chocolate
It dissolves well in warm liquids.
3. Mix Into NON DAIRY Yogurt or Oatmeal
Stir into:
• Greek yogurt
• Overnight oats
• Hot oatmeal
Adds thickness and nutrients.
4. Use in NON DAIRY Soups & Sauces
Because it acts as a natural thickener, you can blend it into:
• Soups
• Stews
• Pasta sauces
5. Take It Straight
You can simply swallow 1 tablespoon directly off the spoon and drink water after.
Can I use Seamoss to cook/bake?
Yes — You Can Cook & Bake With Sea Moss Gel
Sea moss gel works especially well as a natural thickener and binder in recipes. It doesn't have any taste, so it won’t overpower or change the flavor of your food.
DO NOT ADD TO ANY DAIRY RECIPES!
